How do elastic self-lacing shoelaces work?

Instead of a standard shoelaces that is tied, you thread the elastic cord through the eyelets and adjust the tension to fit your foot. When putting on the shoe you simply slip in your foot without retying. The elastic cord adapts to the shape of your foot and keeps the shoe firmly in place during movement.
