Flame-resistant shoelaces APYROL

Description

Shoe shoelaces treated with Apyrol feature a special protective flame-retardant treatment, thanks to which they are used primarily in work footwear designed for firefighters, welders, metallurgists and military footwear. This is a cost-effective alternative to Nomex® shoelaces – it provides significant fire protection using classic materials (cotton, polyester).

Technical specifications

Base fibre: cotton, polyester or a cotton/polyester blend, surface treatment with Apyrol (chemical flame retardant), cellulose tip finish. The treatment is applied to the finished shoelaces and changes its reaction to flame – it slows combustion and ensures self-extinguishing behaviour.

Apyrol vs. Nomex® – what is the difference?

Nomex® is an aramid fibre that is inherently non-flammable – the protection is part of the very molecular structure of the fibre and cannot be washed or worn off. Apyrol, on the other hand, is a chemical treatment applied to the surface of a cotton or polyester shoelaces. A shoelaces with Apyrol burns significantly more slowly than an untreated one and is self-extinguishing, but it does not withstand the same temperatures as Nomex®. The price of Apyrol shoelaces is a fraction of the price of Nomex®, making it the right choice for environments with basic or moderate fire risk requirements.
