When to choose thick shoelaces instead of thin?

Thicker 4–5 mm shoelaces belong in footwear with larger eyelets and metal hooks – typically work shoes, hiking footwear and robust trainers. In this type of footwear, thin 2–3 mm shoelaces float in the eyelet, slip and come undone quickly. A thicker shoelaces sits firmly in the eyelet, holds its shape and looks solid. It also has higher tensile strength, which you will appreciate when tightening work or hiking footwear firmly.
