Description

Shoelaces made from Nomex® fibre – a material renowned for its high resistance to fire, heat and chemicals – have specific properties that make them ideal for extreme conditions. They are designed for professions and situations where standard polyester or cotton shoelaces fail or become a safety risk.

Technical specifications

Material: 100% Nomex® – aramid fibre with permanent fire resistance (this is not a surface treatment that washes or wears off over time). Withstands temperatures up to around 370 °C without loss of strength. Flame-resistant, does not melt and does not drip even on direct contact with a flame.

Key properties of Nomex® shoelaces:

  • flame-resistant material – does not burn, melt or drip at high temperatures
  • thermal resistance up to around 370 °C without loss of strength
  • high chemical resistance – withstands many industrial chemicals and solvents
  • designed for firefighters, welders, metallurgists, military and demanding industrial environments

“Fire tests everyone. We test the shoelaces.”

Why Nomex® and not standard polyester?

Polyester begins to melt and drip at around 250 °C, and the hot molten mass can cause serious burns to the skin. At high temperatures it can even adhere to the skin and complicate treatment. Nomex® is an aramid fibre that carbonises at high temperatures – it stiffens and does not ignite. That is why it is the standard for protective clothing and footwear for firefighters and professions where the risk of contact with flame or high heat is part of the daily routine.

For which professions are Nomex® shoelaces designed?

Nomex® shoelaces are made for professions where ordinary shoelaces fail: firefighters (intervention footwear), welders (protection against sparks and molten metal), metallurgists and workers in the metallurgical industry, military and special units, refineries and the chemical industry. If your employer requires certified fire protection, standard polyester shoelaces in work footwear do not address it – replacing them with Nomex® closes the last weak link in the protection chain.
