Why are special skate laces important?

A hockey skate requires firm and even tightening along the full length of lacing – from the toe to the last hook above the ankle. Ordinary sneaker laces snap, stretch or lose their shape under this load. Polyester hockey laces are rated for repeated intensive tightening while retaining their original length and strength even after months of training. The knot holds firmly, they do not come undone during line changes and they resist moisture from both the ice and perspiration inside the skate.
